Asian-Americans Climb Fashion Industry Ladder
YAY!

So after talking to a new friend about her meeting Richard Chai, I decided to look up his Fall collection, and this is his ready-wear collection. I still can’t believe she met him on the streets and was brave enough to ask him to go to his show. AND he then asked her for her email. Hopefully she can go~~ So amazing~
Being an intern is very tiring…
Upon first glance at Richard Chai Love SS11 Collection, I found it interesting and something I thought I could get used to, you know, this whole Minimalist fashion idea. (and minimalist idea in general that seems to be spreading) Seeing it for the second time through video, I had to second guess myself. Would I really wear something like nylon underneath a pair of khakis in Spring? They’re not tights even but really more along the lines of trousers underneath khakis-but just transparent. But I do like his color palette: the grays (what’s the difference between grey and gray), black, blues and transparents, and the latter half of his collection didn’t seem all that bad. I guess I can’t wrap my head around the idea of wearing trousers underneath khakis. Maybe I should update my mind to a more contemporary world?
And then of course, I would start wondering if I made the right choice between Prabal Gurung and Richard Chai. Gurung’s collection really wowed me. To think I never knew about this “wunderkind” ( am I allowed to use my new learned vocabulary here?) before is insane. But let’s just be appreciative for his presence. Back to my indecisiveness and contemplation, really should I have chosen to listen in on Gurung and what he has to say about his experience through internships and what not rather than on 2010 Swarovski Award for Menswear’s winner, Chai, about his journey to build a women’s collection when starting at a menswear perspective. Which to choose, though I’ve already made my choice…

Richard Chai + Jason Wu + Vera Wang + Anna Wintour + Teen Vogue Editors = Inspirational and amazing day.
I can’t emphasize how amazing the whole day was. Being able to talk to the editors and being able to ask them questions answered a lot of my questions. They filled me with hope that I can make it if I try. Fashion is amazing, it’s so human.
This whole sheerness and playing peek-a-boo with the sun is attracting me. There is a certain line though that can’t be crossed into slutty but there’s always that risque/sexy-ness to all that sheerness. One of my favorite fabrics: chiffon.

This I like the design concept of, but possibility of me wearing it? Very low…

Richard Chai-the man for layering-of course, he would have sheer clothing involved. I like.
